Devon Cafe opens in North Sydney’s Greenwood Plaza (Sydney)

Owner Derek Puah and Executive Chef Zachary Tan have officially opened their third iteration of Sydney’s beloved Devon Cafe, moving across the bridge to North Sydney’s Greenwood Plaza. With doors swinging open today, North Shore locals should be in for a treat, seeing as the already established Surry Hills and Barangaroo cafes regularly pull out some of Sydney’s best cafe dishes, from truffle-loaded toasties to pig’s ear katsu.

The original Devon Cafe in Surry Hills has long been one of the pioneers of the city’s higher-end cafe culture and is often regarded as one of the best spots for casual dining in a suburb packed with quality options. Similarly, the much newer Barangaroo cafe has become one of the precinct’s finest, standing out along with the likes of Belle’s Hot Chicken and Ume Burger as a clear favourite.

Tan, who also handles the excellent food over at Darlinghurst’s Lucky Suzie, and his team have come up with a whole heap of new dishes for the North Sydney menu. Announced so far over on their Facebook page is the likes of Ragu alla sichuanese, a wildly experimental pasta dish with coriander tagliolini mixed through dan dan style chili mince pork, peanuts, burrata and a slow cooked egg. Also on the menu is a lovely looking buratta served with Turkish bread, Sichuan chili oil and eggplant puree.

UPDATE: It has also been confirmed that the popular Devon by Night menu will be making a return, with dishes like fresh egg pappardelle with lobster, cherry tomatoes, garlic, chilli and olive oil, a roasted whole chook that has been marinated in fragrant Balinese spices, and 12-hour beef short ribs braised in sweet soy glaze, bumbu, crispy eschallots, coconut mignonette and fresh herbs.

By day, in addition to the exciting list of brunch favourites like a “ghetto style” omelette with lobster meat, bisque beurre blanc, caviar and fine herbs in a fresh croissant, there will also be a takeaway “sando” menu with fillings like panko prawns, tom yum mayo, cabbage and thai herbs slapped on a fluffy white bread.

Devon North Sydney is now open, for more information head to their website HERE.
