7 things you need to eat at smooth Festival of Chocolate in Sydney this weekend

This weekend the annual smooth Festival of Chocolate returns to Sydney’s harbourside the Rocks precinct, bringing an enormous amount of dessert-focused goodness including chef presentations, endless rows of stalls, and a bunch of activities. It’s grown into one of the city’s most anticipated foodie events, and to help you prepare we’ve put together a list of some of the things you should be making a bee-line for as soon as you get there. Trust us, you’ll want to know where you’re going because the crowds can get pretty damn thick.

Gelato Messina

Head along to the ever-dominate dessert lords at Gelato Messina because they’ll be bringing back their famed gelato chocolate blocks. Here’s what’s on the menu:

Chok-it-Out Now | $10
Caramel gelato, caramel fudge, rice bubbles & biscuit crumb covered in Messina milk chocolate.

Choccy McChocface | $10
Milk chocolate gelato, malted nougat semi freddo & chocolate mud cake covered in Messina dark chocolate.

This Little Piggy | $10
Red velvet cake, raspberry gel, white chocolate & cream cheese gelato, almond praline crunch covered in Messina white chocolate & raspberry glaze (feature image).

Choctimus Prime | $15
Dark chocolate custard, choc chip gelato, salted caramel cream, chocolate mud cake, toasted white chocolate crunch, blackcurrant jelly, dark chocolate sauce and salted dark chocolate shards.

Zumbo Ski Bar

When Zumbo’s involved in a pop-up you know it’s going to be good. The dessert king will be helping serve up a whole heap of sugary goodness, including the “Hot Blooded”, a special dessert made from Blood orange jelly, flourless chocolate sponge, citrus chocolate cremeux, whipped ganache & chocolate streusel, served inside a milk chocolate sphere with a hot chocolate sauce reveal. It’s even Gluten Free!

Endeavour Tap Rooms

This Redfern-based beer bar will be getting involved across the two-day festival with some special chocolate beer, promising a full mouthfeel achieved by offsetting the richness of the cocoa, chocolate and roasted malts with the hops bitterness and a layer of sweetness.

Mr Black Bar

Mr Black, Australia’s highly regarded coffee liquor, will be hosting their very own pop-up bar on the MCA lawn during the festival, where they’ll be slinging out plenty of coffee-inspired cocktails including the Jartini, which is a Mr Black espresso martini topped with a Nutie Donut.

Jungle Laneway

Sydney Props specialist Jungle Laneway won’t have anything you can eat, but they will have something you can feast your eyes upon; an ode to the history of chocolate and the Aztec jungle. Featuring special guest, award winning chocolatier Jodie Van Der Velden from Josophan’s Fine Chocolates creating a masterpiece of a mini jungle of cacao plants made entirely out of chocolate.

The smooth Festival of Chocolate takes place at The Rocks on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th August. More details can be found HERE
