As of earlier this month Alexandria has its very own entry into Sydney’s contentious gourmet burger scene, welcoming hip-hop oriented joint 4 Ounces Burger Co which is pushing a strong commitment to sustainability and local produce. The new business comes from Michelin trained chef Rory Donnelly (ex-Cafe Del Mar) and childhood friend and experienced bar manager Mitch Coleman, both whom have secured an impressive list of suppliers for the new eatery, which includes The Bread and Butter Project, Feature and Bone, Westmont, Diemen, Donut Papi, and Karma Cole.
4 Ounces has been shaped into the old Henley’s Wholefoods space on Mitchell Road, setting up a small, simple and clean space featuring a large black and white mural by local artist James Jirat. It’s a cosy space in which to breeze through the menu, which includes six different burgers, ranging from The Common (signature pattie, American cheese, mustard, ketchup, onion and milk bun) and The Champagne Papi (fried chicken, French fries, maple bacon, fresh curds, champagne gravy and milk bun) to The Cheezy Yeezy (two signature patties, liquid cheese, deep fried truffle cheese, pickled green tomato, onion and milk bun) and The Big Poppa (three signature patties, special sauce, Westmont pickles, porcini and bacon jam, blue cheese, onion and milk bun).
Sides are on deck too, with a small but quality selection including loaded fries, battered ghost chilli pickles, and fried chicken. This of course is accompanied by Karma Cole’s signature sodas, including the Karma Cola, Gingerella, and Lemmy Lemon.
“4 Ounces Burger Co is an American style burger joint that celebrates everything we have here in Australia”, offered Donnelly. “Everything that we don’t make in-house – the beef, the booze, the sauces – comes from within Australia. Take it as our way to lower our footprints through transit.”
Those in the area will also be able to order 4 Ounces’ burgers through delivery services UBER Eats, Foodora and Deliveroo.
