I don’t know what it is about flossing that makes it feel like such a tedious task for me. I know that I have to do it, and I do every day, but if I’m being honest, it feels time-consuming and can sometimes be a bit messy.
I knew that water flossers have been in the market for a while now and have been gaining popularity quickly over the last few years, but I could never justify buying one. So when I was able to trial the new Oclean W10 Water Flosser, I jumped at the chance.
Design
The Oclean W10 Water Flosser comes in two colours, green and pink. A bit bulkier than the average electric toothbrush set up you’d see in a bathroom, the Oclean W10 is surprisingly light to hold even when the removable 200mL water bank is full. It is also shaped perfectly to your palm, with a rounded body and a rubber strap handle for ease of use.
Users also don’t ever have to worry about the flosser ever getting too wet, as it has an IPX7 waterproof rating. This means the product can be immersed in water up to one metre for about half an hour (not that you’ll ever need to submerge the flosser like that, but it’s handy to know if you ever drop it in a full sink of water).
The Oclean W10 Water Flosser also comes with an extra 360 rotatable nozzle to change over once the first one has gotten good use, and a charging cable which can be plugged in at the bottom of the device.
Functioning the product is also quite straightforward, with only two buttons. The power button and the button to change between the five different modes.
The five different flossing modes are: an Intensive Mode for thorough cleans, Standard Mode for daily cleans, Gentle Mode to take into consideration people with sensitive gums, Pulsating Mode, and On-demand Mode, so you can take full control of how you want to floss. These modes are easily switched with a click of a button, with chosen modes highlighted.
Performance
Having never used a water flosser before, the sensation did shock me initially. It was surprisingly a lot more powerful than I thought, delivering up to 1,400 pulses per minute via a 0.6mm water jet, which you can feel on the Intensive Mode.
But using the Intensive Mode can also drain the water quite quickly, so if you want to do a thorough clean of your teeth and gums in this setting, you’ll most likely have to fill up the water tank twice or even three times to get a really thorough clean of all your teeth. But the flipable latch helps you refill the water really easily.
The other modes are great, but don’t feel like they give the same thorough clean as the Intensive Mode. The Pulsating Mode comes as a close second in terms of providing that feeling of cleanliness and freshness, and can clean your mouth in one water tank if you try.
But it just takes a little bit longer. But it also just depends on the sensitivity of your gums and teeth!
While the Intensive Mode and Pulsating Mode are really good, it’s also worth mentioning that this is not an alternative to regular flossing, where regular flossing can get you a deeper clean purely because of the functionality of the floss.
But as pressured water flosses go, it’s gentle enough on the gums (while simultaneously being quite powerful) and does a really great clean, but should not really be a complete replacement for regular flossing.
But with that, the 15-second timer is also really useful, as you don’t need to switch the flosser on and off every time you need to rinse your mouth.
I had also not charged it at all before using the product, and went straight to using the Oclean W10 Water Flosser as soon as I had unboxed it. So after about two and a bit weeks of use, the battery has still not faltered or died, and feels just as powerful as when I first switched it on, which makes me feel hopeful that it will last through to the indicated 30-day battery life as mentioned.
And another downside is that if you have a bathroom that’s a bit on the smaller side, and you share a space with a lot of people, it can take up a lot of room.
Verdict & Value
The Oclean W10 Water Flosser has made my nightly routine easier and less painful than regular flossing, especially on the nights when I feel extremely tired and too lazy to use regular floss.
It’s been incredibly useful being able to just pick up the flosser, fill it with water and clean your teeth immediately without thought and is much quicker than regular flossing. The pressured water makes it feel like you’re getting a rigorous enough clean, and the ease of use makes the product even better.
But again, it does not emulate the same type of cleanliness that regular flossing can give you, but it’s a great alternative.
FOUR STARS (OUT OF FIVE)
Highlights: Very thorough and really easy to use; Battery life has also proved to be quite reliable.
Lowlights: You need to refill the water quite a bit on the Intensive Mode; A bit on the bulkier side and can take up a lot of space on a smaller sink.
