Track of the Day: Sam Carmody “Shadow in the Dream” (2018)

Compelling, dynamic and likely to make you feel as if you are momentarily floating in another dimension; Sam Carmody‘s stunning new track “Shadow in the Dream”, taken from his debut EP,  will envelop your soul in its delicate design.

Carmody has stuck himself out as one to be watched after the release of this beautiful track. From the moment the opening chords ring out, listeners will be fully and completely engulfed in the moment. With a unique, almost ethereal voice that is both fresh and propelling, paired with unadorned, raw lyricism, this track explodes with an expression of emotion that is both breathtaking and fresh. Poignant and soul-stirring, Carmody’s simple, uncluttered words delve into an exploration of lost love and the efforts to hold onto what is real. In other words, the song will rip your heart from your body and immerse it in its hauntingly open beauty.

Hailing from Geraldtown, drawn towards Perth and now currently finding himself drifting about Darwin, this new Australian voice is no stranger to the art of words. Active as a singer-songwriter for several years across various projects, in 2012 Sam Carmody won a WAMi Song of the Year award for his work with Perth four-piece Warning Birds. On top of that, Carmody released his first novel The Windy Season in 2016 and was shortlisted for the Vogel Award (Australia’s most prestigious literary prize for young writers). In 2017, the novel won the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction.

Pulling inspiration from the likes of the experimental, antipodean pop of Nick Cave, The Go-Betweens and Crowded House, it is clear that Sam will be turning heads across the country with this new material.
