Track of the Day: Psychedelic Porn Crumpets “Mr. Prism” (2020)

Perth psych-rock juggernauts Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have just the hard-hitting tune to rev up your day. With its relentless rhythm, distorted guitars and unpredictable arrangement, “Mr. Prism”, the group’s first release of 2020, is a wild ride from start to finish.

Songwriter Jack McEwan says the track was inspired by a nasty case of pneumonia he endured coinciding with the end of a gruelling tour last year. “I did Falls Festival over New Year’s and barely got through,” he recalls. Thankfully, with the help of modern medicine, McEwan made a full recovery and documented his hellish experience into song.

The band have hinted that they have nearly completed a new album, and if their previous album And Now For The Whatchamacallit is anything to go by, it should be quite the aural experience.

With COVID restrictions gradually loosening in WA, the band will embark on a run of headline shows on the West Coast in September. But, if you’re in other parts of the country, you might just have to hold on until next year to catch the band live. The group will be supporting Sydney’s Ocean Alley on a nationwide tour in February and March 2021.

Go on and give “Mr. Prism” a listen.
