Auckland based indie-pop trip LA Women aren’t letting 2020, or social clout chasing (a very, very common thing) slow them down as they slink of the wobbly pop of “Falling In Love”. Musing on a status-obsessed society, the Kiwi outfit turn in another strong offering following over R&B-indebted funk-pop numbers like “Love Me” and 2019 stand-out “Under Pressure”.
Though rightfully cynical about a world built by social media, “Falling In Love” is still yearning for connection, slicing up the rather worrying observations with a refreshing sense of euphoria, a pep no doubt influenced by just how fun and energetic the instrumental is. Once the auto-tuned bridge and melody hit, it’s hard to unwrap yourself from Jack Schdroski’s assured vocal performance.
“We’ve played ‘Falling in Love’ at live shows before, and had so many fans coming up to us asking about it and when it’s coming out,” said Schdroski. “Usually it’s on our own terms how and when we release songs, but this one was definitely influenced by fan feedback which is cool.”
