Track of the Day: Flying Lotus Feat. Denzel Curry “Black Balloons” (2019)

Now that Flying Lotus’ new album Flamgra is out it’s time for the eccentric produce to throw us another single, following tracks with the likes of David Lynch, Little Dragon and Anderson. Paak with a hammering boom-bap rap track called “Black Balloons Reprise”.

As you might have guessed from the name, it’s a sequel to Denzel Curry’s “Black Balloons” and “The Black Balloon”, pulling the snub-nosed emcee back in for an aggressive, bouncy track that gets all kinds of dark as FlyLo flexes all the way back to the 90’s.

Flying Lotus was quick to note on his YouTube channel that the production for this track is meant as an homage to Madlib and Egon.

“When I was in college I heard quas “Come on Feet” [and] it relit my love for sampling, and eventually my world. Love to you legends” – Flying Lotus

Flamgra is out now.
