Track of the Day: Dirty Projectors “Inner World” (2020)

“We hope it can bring you serenity and solace during this tumultuous moment in history,” writes Dirty Projectors on the band’s latest single “Inner World”. As a follow-up to the eternally gorgeous “Lose Your Love”, it’s but another impressive look at what the New York indie darlings have planned this year.

And what they have planned is ambitious as fuck. Lifting a page from the King Gizzard book of quality-and-quantity, DP are releasing no less than five new EPs this year. That might seem like a lot, but as fans know, this band is more than capable of flying through such a heavy task with ease.

The roll-out is a bit conceptual as well. The first four of these five EPs will have each member of the band take lead vocals, while the fifth will bring it all together with all of them swapping the main mic. That’s a pretty damn good way to celebrate what is officially the first time the latest band line up has recorded studio music together.

For example, Maia Friedman has pulled to the front on the first EP, laying vocals down for Windows Open, from which this new single has been taken. Next up will be Flight Tower, anchored by the vocals of Felicia Douglass
