The AU Mixtape: Nine Songs By American Bands Every Australian Should Be Listening To

Help us help you. Listen to some of the best music coming out of the US right now. 9 tracks from 9 artists that you may not be listening to. And we at the AU think you should be. Enjoy this little piece of music discovery to end your Thursday…

The AU Mixtape:
The Garden – All Smiles Over Here
Beach Slang – Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas
St Paul and the Broken Bones – Call Me
The Front Bottoms – Cough It Out
Antarctigo Vespucci – Sometimes
Typhoon – Prosthetic Love
Chastity Belt – Time To Go Home
Diet Cig – Sleep Talk
Zebra Katz – You Tell Em

Hailing from California, neo-punk duo The Garden have smashed it out of the park with their new single “All Smiles Over Here”, which will see them make their debut Australian Tour from September 24. The track itself is taken from their record Haha, which is due out October 9 via Epitaph/Burger Records.

“Bad Art & Weird Ideas” comes from Beach Slang’s debut record The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us which is out October 30, 2015 on Cooking Vinyl Australia. We’re a bit excited for this one.

One of the best live bands on the planet right now – and getting ready to make their first trip to Australia as part of Bluesfest. Their only music video doesn’t quite give them the justice they deserve, but it gives you a great taste of it.

Once you hear The Front Bottoms, you’ll want to hear nothing else.

Antarctigo Vespucci is the recently released project featuring Chris Farren of Fake Problems and Jeff Rosenstock, and we can’t get enough of their record, off which “Sometimes” is an easy highlight.

Fresh from supporting Courtney Barnett on her recent US tour, Chastity Belt are Jangly, DIY, indie, slacker rock from Seattle. If you haven’t heard them by now, you’re not trying hard enough – but now is your chance.

This track is a bit old by now, but we never pass up an opportunity to promote Portland’s Typhoon, one of the best bands out of the US that no one in Australia is listening to.

Diet Cig are a new New York duo who seem to be doing all the right things and are about to release their new 7″ Sleep Talk / Dinner Date on September 18th on Father/Daughter + Art Is Hard Records. It’s off this record that the song, naturally, is taken.

We end with one of our Lollapalooza Discoveries. Ojay Morgan aka Zebra Katz, is making some of the most unique hip hop we’ve heard in a while. And we can’t get enough. Add yourself to that list!
