We caught up with Melbourne based musician HOWQUA during Canadian Music Week. This is the first time performing on an international stage for the acoustic singer, who has been touring non-stop as a solo artist. Click through to check out the interview on his hectic schedule, his songwriting process and his next step…
After playing a series of benefit shows in Melbourne, the follow up of tour dates has been a hectic experience, “We came over here with just two shows to play and four days I’m in Toronto, and ended up playing six shows”. The opportunity of playing internationally has allowed the singer to meet new international artists, and also face the challenges of touring solo, meeting new crews and the ever awful jet-lag.
He describes his recent songs as being lyric-heavy and full of honesty, which in his opinion, are fundamental in forming a connection with his audience, whether its ‘crying or cheering’. This approach to songwriting has led him to reflect on his creative process saying, “You try to put yourself in a space where you can get inspired or you can write, but at the end of the day sometimes its sitting on the couch at our friends place”. So what’s the next step? Australian tour dates have been announced with the release of his EP in Australia and New Zealand.
