SXSW Interview: Rapsody on new Netflix docuseries Rapture and Laila’s Wisdom

With one of eight episodes from forthcoming Netflix docuseries Rapture dedicated to her story, we managed to grab a quick chat with North Carolina emcee Rapsody during a preview screening at SXSW Film Festival. The new series from Mass Appeal and Sacha Jenkins looks at the personal lives and individual contexts of various hip hop artists through generations, including veterans like Nas, T.I, and Just Blaze, and rising stars like Rapsody, Dave East and A Boogie wit da Hoodie. Several directors have worked across the various episodes, with award-winning Director-Producer-Editor Geeta Gandbhir working with Rapsody on her story.

During our very brief discussion with Rapsody on the red carpet she gives us a bit of insight into how her involvement with the project came to pass, why she trusted the crew to tell her personal story, and her reaction to the universal critical acclaim surrounding her Grammy-nominated album Laila’s Wisdom. You can watch the full video below and stay tuned for more talk on Rapture over at our sister site The Iris.

Rapture will premiere on Netflix on 30th March 2018. Laila’s Wisdom is out now.
