Single Stream: William Beckett – “Stuck In Love” (2012)

Since his time as the frontman for The Academy Is… William Beckett has released two solo EPs (Walk the Talk and Winds Will Change) which are leagues ahead of his former bands music, in both quality and originality. With the third EP (What Will Be) about to drop, he’s now unveiled what could be the best song of them all – and it’s not the starry-eyed torch ballad you’re expecting.

Rather, the song is a churning mix of guitars, gritty electro-beats, and some crunchy piano notes. The song is credited as ‘featuring Ryan Ross’ (formerly of Panic! At The Disco and The Young Veins), but aside from three words, he only provides some backing vocals. However, this is fourtunate, because it would only distract from the passionate, almost sexual, aggression in Beckett’s vocals. All this, combined with his clever lyrics easily makes it one of his best works to date.
