Single Stream: Pair of Arrows – “Vestige” (2012)

I’ve always thought that electronic music has plenty of artistic potential, but it’s squandered on repetitive riffs and heavily distorted vocals, saying nothing of value. I’ve had this opinion for years. But now, allow me to present to you Pair of Arrows, a brand-new electronic duo (made up of Swan on vocals/lyrics and R/D on synth/production), who have made me re-evaluate my opinion of the genre.

In two words, utterly captivating, “Vestige” is a sonic wonderland, layering rhythmic drumming, entrancing synth and the most delicate of bells, all beneath Swan’s gorgeous voice. The result? One of the most stunning slow-burning songs I’ve ever heard, perfect for going down the rabbit hole of your own mind.

The melancholic lyrics blend beautifully and create a veritable soundscape of emotion, but what stands out the most about the song is… nothing. It is so seamlessly interwoven that there’s never a moment of imbalance.

And as if it couldn’t get any better, they’ve made it available as a free download. Have a listen and let us know what you think.
