Single of the Day: Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever “Write Back” (2016)

If you were able to catch Bully performing their first Australian shows late last year, chances are you will have been introduced to Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever at those shows. The band has quickly been whipping up the momentum and praise for their breezy surfy rock-punk stylings and their latest single “Write Back” is another promising offering from a band you should most definitely be keeping a close eye on throughout this year.

Using an internet romance as his narrative, guitarist and songwriter Fran Keaney tells a story about a love that will never fully come to fruition, and the bittersweet ‘Yeah, ok’ acceptance that accompanies it. The vibe of the song is upbeat even though lyrics may indicate otherwise and the vocals on the track are engaging and endearing. “Write Back” has a distinctive jangle about its arrangement that makes it an easy listen; it’s not complicated but still hooks you in and keeps your attention.

“Write Back” is released on Record Store Day (April 16th) as part of a special double A-side 7″ – be sure to cop your copy in a few months!
