In their first Australian tour since 2019, Atlanta hard rock veterans Sevendust are finally heading back to Australia, bringing three decades of heavy grooves, soaring vocals and some seriously enduring anthems to capital cities in February 2027. Joining them for the run will be Brisbane progressive metal favourites Caligula’s Horse, making this a particularly strong pairing for local heavy music fans.
Formed in 1994, Sevendust have managed something increasingly rare in heavy music: a 30-year career without losing the sound or the audience that got them here. Their combination of crushing riffs, groove-driven rhythms and the unmistakably soulful voice of frontman Lajon Witherspoon has earned them a fiercely loyal following, affectionately known as the 7D Army.
They’ve also had an interesting journey to get there. The band’s name came from Sevin Dust, a garden insecticide that bassist Vince Hornsby brought into rehearsal when the group were searching for a new identity. Hardly the most rock ‘n’ roll inspiration, but it has served them rather well. Their 1997 self-titled debut eventually went gold, setting them on a path that has since included nearly eight million album sales, hundreds of millions of streams, three Top 15 Billboard 200 debuts and a GRAMMY nomination for Best Metal Performance.
Their longevity has also seen them collaborate with an unexpectedly diverse collection of artists, including members of Deftones, Creed and Periphery, alongside hip hop artist Xzibit and singer Daughtry. Sevendust Australian tour 2027Their live reputation has been a major part of their staying power, with the band continuing to pack out venues around the world.
The Australian return follows the release of their 15th studio album, ONE, which arrived in May 2026. It’s another reminder of just how comfortably Sevendust move between muscular, riff-heavy metal and the melodic hooks that have always set them apart. They also scored their biggest radio success to date with their 2023 single “Everything”, which reached a career-high position on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.
If recent setlists are anything to go by, fans can expect a healthy dose of old favourites alongside material from ONE. “Black”, “Denial”, “Praise”, “Enemy” and “Face to Face” have been regular fixtures throughout 2026, while “Crucified”, “Waffle” and “Angel’s Son” have also been making appearances. The latter, a tribute to late Snot frontman Lynn Strait, is always a particularly poignant moment. No Australian setlist has been confirmed, of course, but there’s no shortage of crowd favourites to draw from.
Joining the tour are Caligula’s Horse, who have spent the past decade and a half building an international reputation as one of Australia’s leading progressive metal exports. The Brisbane outfit’s six-album catalogue blends intricate musicianship with expansive soundscapes and emotionally charged songwriting, earning them opportunities to share stages with the likes of Opeth and Devin Townsend.
Interestingly, Caligula’s Horse wasn’t originally intended to become a band at all. Guitarist Sam Vallen and vocalist Jim Grey initially came together to record what was meant to be a one-off project. The response to their debut album, Moments From Ephemeral City, was enough to change those plans, and the rest, as they say, is history. Their name is another nod to the unusual, with its inspiration coming from the story of Roman Emperor Caligula’s horse, Incitatus, which he supposedly intended to appoint as a consul.
It’s been a long wait for the local 7D Army, and with Caligula’s Horse adding some homegrown progressive firepower to the bill, February 2027 is shaping up to be a very welcome return for one of America’s most enduring hard rock acts.
