Tumbalong Park will be transformed into a very special performance space on Saturday 22 October 2011, playing host to some of the most exciting emerging International and Australian artists across the electronic music and indie spectrum for the inaugural música event – música/TUMBALONG.

Boasting a hand-picked selection of nine artists, five of which are making their debut Australian appearances, música/TUMBALONG is focused on delivering a limited capacity event where the accent is on yoú – a Sydney-sider who wants to enjoy good food, good wine, good company and great music.

Music lovers will be able to chill out on a patch of lush green grass and spend the afternoon absorbing their favourite artists’ set then as dusk falls and the atmosphere (and music) gains momentum, dance to their hearts content against a backdrop of Sydney’s skyline.

“música/TUMBALONG is the first in a series of inspiring and original boutique events, produced by people who are creative, personable and extremely passionate about music. At the heart of música is our desire to be unique and exceed all expectations” Kane Bligh, música Promoter said.

Featuring ten hours of music from midday (artists will be playing full 45 – 60 minute sets) this licensed 18 + event will also stage roaming performers, an array of food and beverages to suit all palates, one main stage and a VIP deck.

Artist Bios

Baths (US) – LA music-maker Will Wiesenfeld (Baths) has gainfully explored the intersections and outer reaches of both electronic and acoustic music. His eclecticism finds its greatest focus yet in a hail of lush melodies, ghostly choirs, playful instrumentation and stuttering beats. The stunning debut album, Cerulean made Pitchfork’s Albums of the Year 2010: Honorable Mention list and we’re very much looking forward to having him play for yoú at música.

Bon Chat, Bon Rat (AUS) – Producing hypnotic electronic music for the wide-eyed and wild, Sydney’s Bon Chat Bon Rat are characteristic of the new wave of indie-inspired electro groups – melodic but not overproduced; ambient but not coma-inducing; and most of all the music has a real sense of warmth. Their live shows are an audio-visual feast featuring projections of hallucinating warped images washing over the stage. Different projections for each show constantly breathe new life into the songs and performance.

Electric Wire Hustle (NZ) – With Maori, African and Vietnamese roots to draw from both musically and culturally Electric Wire Hustle produce a unique sound, challenging genre boundaries and reaching forward while referencing key points from the past. Psychedelic, hip-hop and jazz influences are strong, as are contemporary and electronic – but it’s all centered around soul. They make tracks as cool as black slate; liquid future soul sex jams that have attracted influential ears belonging to the likes of BBC Radio DJs and tastemakers Gilles Peterson and Benji B.

Ghostpoet (UK) – With Gilles Peterson, The Guardian, NME, CMJ, RCRDLBL, URB, Drowned In Sound and The Mercury Prize amongst his admirers Ghostpoet is one of these rare ‘right place, right time’ artists. Combining his delightful rambling musings on modern life with a handful of off-kilter, loopy electronic ditties 24-year-old Obaro Ejimiwe attracts instant comparisons to The Streets’ Mike Skinner, but much separates these two MCs.

LUNICE (CAN) – In little over a year, Montreal born Lunice Fermin Pierre II has managed to capture the attention of the world with his eclectic sound and unusual production. A born entertainer, he has the persona, sound and dexterity to make any audience move. His distinctive style relies on short sharp vocal samples, aggressive snares and high-pitched synths, the result is a futuristic sound which harnesses all the best attributes of ‘90s rap and electronic music. Following his performance at Sonar 2010 a review by Drowned in Sound states that Lunice “proves his worth in the line up by offering the most entertaining one man show of the weekend”.

Mitzi (AUS) – Syncopated guitar and dulcet bass grooves intertwined with classic disco beats and an unashamed pop sensibility; herein lies the Mitzi sound – smooth, laidback vocals with an analogue warmth. The four piece disco troupe caused a stir with their debut EP All I Heard fusing sounds of garage disco, NYC indie and the light heartedness of Australian pop into one killer record. The EP was released through Sydney label Future Classic.

SBTRKT (UK) – SBTRKT is the elusive South London-based producer making some of the freshest beats around. The sound-patterns and rhythms can easily soundtrack the ecstatic hands in the air dance floor moments while influences are incorporated with subtlety and sophistication: dense enough to interpret, light enough to dance to. House, dubstep, techno, funk and soul – it’s all here – but twisted and turned the only way SBTRKT knows how. An exciting new producer/performer who seemingly appeared from nowhere to remix Tinie Tempah’s UK #1 single, as well as tracks for Gorillaz, Modeselektor, Jack Penate and Basement Jaxx. Such is his hype, he’s recently released self-titled debut is winning rave reviews and ‘album of the week’ status across the globe.

Simon Caldwell (AUS) – Simon Caldwell is a stalwart of the Sydney underground electronic music scene. With a career spanning nearly two decades he is currently a co-promoter/resident DJ at Mad Racket and presenter of the Monday Sunset show on FBi Radio. As a DJ, he continues to push new ideas and influences while still being able to draw on the history of his expansive and discriminating record collection. Whether he’s playing deep house, techno, ambient, soul, hip hop, bangin’ Chicago house, Detroit electro or jazz, you can expect to hear the old alongside the new.

Tiger & Woods (ITA) – One day in a fairly dusty basement, digging for records, these two fine gentlemen nearly got into a fight over a nameless boogie record which is so rare that even the usual disco detectives hadn’t discovered it yet. Shrouded in mystery, those special extended disco versions that have been carefully tuned, remixed, over-dubbed, sliced and diced by Larry Tiger and David Woods have caused quite a stir. Looking to the future while digging in the past Tiger & Woods use both recognizable and exotic sources supplemented with original production to take you to undiscovered terrains that somehow feel like home.
