Playlist: Revisiting the Best Songs of 2011

As we continue to reflect back on the last decade of music, join us as we revisit 2011. We’ve taken the songs from our top 40 tracks of 2011 poll – as voted for by our contributors almost a decade ago – and curated a ripper playlist on Spotify.

Gotye and Kimbra topped the list with their timeless hit “Somebody That I Used to Know”. This track was taken from his incredible album Making Mirrors, which also won top spot in the AU review’s best albums of 2011 poll.

Kimbra, Washington and Ball Park Music each made two appearances on the list, a reflection of the phenomenal releases these artists served up in 2011.

There is a plenitude of homegrown talent, with Matt Corby, Oh Mercy, Big Scary, The Jezabels, and more, securing positions. Elsewhere on the list, we see hits from Adele, The Black Keys, Bon Iver, Lana Del Rey, and more, reminding us that 2011 was a massive year, full of good music.
