When a musician throws a birthday party, he has some friends to call upon to make it special. Which is exactly what Sean of Sean Blackwell did on Friday night. To get the party started, Thom Lion played some tunes on the electronic piano accompanied by Troy from The Yellow Wallpaper on drums and Dylby and Mark on guitar. Keeping it in the family, Mark’s son Jett stepped in for a couple of songs. Jett is the lead singer of PASH, an emerging four-piece indie pop/rock band that have had some recent Triple J success with “East End Girls”.
With a strong representation from family and friends in the crowd, Sean Blackwell took to the stage with his brother Drew and singer Kirsten. The band has recently supported acts such as 1927 and Earth, Wind and Fire. Their sound is a blend of R&B blues and roots and acoustic that has a familiar feel. Continuing to keep it in the family, Kirsten’s young teen son Lucian jumped up for a couple of songs shredding a guitar.
All in all, it was a fun evening of music and good company at The Wheaty, Adelaide’s home of craft beer and music in Adelaide’s inner west. Steve was also in creative mode, sketching a futuristic looking owl during the set.
