After a long eighteen months away, Beyond the Valley returned in a new way; Beyond the City with the two-day event kicking off in style at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl to celebrate the ringing in 2022.
With international acts out this year, it meant that BTC was able to highlight some of Australia’s growing and established Indie pop artists with Day One emphasising that point with some familiar faces and new friends such as Big Skeez, Telenova, and Sycco.
Longtime festival juggernauts PNAU and newcomers Spacey Jane were definite highlights on the main stage, while festival regulars Mallrat and Allday drew the crowd in early in the searing heat to set the tone for the rest of the day.
It was a lot of fun for a crowd that was restless and raring to go, with nearly two years of pent-up energy exploding out in the dance pit throughout the day leading into the last day of the year.
