Phoenix win Christmas; release holiday track with Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Paul Shaffer and New York Dolls’ David Johansen

French heroes Phoenix have just released their first-ever Christmas single, “Alone on Christmas Day,” via Liberator Music/Glassnote Records. The track – whose sales will support UNICEF – appears in the Netflix original holiday special, A Very Murray Christmas, directed by Sofia Coppola.

The song is a cover of a long-lost Beach Boys holiday track from 1979 that was never formally released. Guesting on the track is the Christmas man himself – Bill Murray – alongside Jason Schwartzman, former Late Show with David Letterman musical director Paul Shaffer (and Artie from Spinal Tap for those playing at home) and New York Dolls’ David Johansen.

Check out the song on YouTube here:

In addition to the digital release on iTunes (grab it HERE to support UNICEF), a limited edition 7” of the song will be available from the band’s website.

A Very Murray Christmas will arrive on Netflix at some point in the next 24 hours…
