2012 is sure to be a great year for music, with many artists making a re-appearance after many years of hiding (in the form of recording in the studio). In alphabetical order, we present the 10 Most Anticipated Releases of 2012. Starting with…

1. Air – Le Voyage Dans La Lune

With the electronic duo’s seventh studio album due to be released on February 3rd, it is sure to be a spellbinding experience as their LP takes inspiration from the 1920’s silent film of the same name, meaning “A Trip To The Moon.”

2. Beach House – TBC

Our brains are rattled with rumours circulating that Beach House have finished recording the follow-up to their smash-hit LP, Teen Dream. However, the band and their label have not helped to confirm or deny our suspicions. Stay tuned for this one…

3. Cat Power – TBC

It has been four years since we have heard anything from songstress Chan Marshall as she released Jukebox in 2008 and with suggestions that she may release a new record in the coming year, we have our fingers crossed.

4. Janelle Monáe – TBC

This year, we will be blessed with the release of two LP’s from Janelle. Yes, you read right – TWO! We have great expectations from the R&B singer after the release of her critically acclaimed album, The ArchAndroid.

5. The Last Shadow Puppets – TBC

Miles Kane and Arctic Monkeys’ singer Alex Turner have raised our eyebrows with the news that they are planning their second album in 2012. Don’t hold your breath on release dates though, as the follow up to 2008’s The Age Of The Understatement will be a wavering worthwhile wait.

6. Leonard Cohen – Old Ideas

The legendary folk singer’s album is set to be released on January 31st to the relief of many fans who had the opportunity to live stream Old Ideas on the online version of weekly magazine, The New Yorker.

7. Metric – TBC

The Canadian band left their mark back in 2008, with their last release, Fantasies. Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed, as they provided music for the soundtrack to Twilight and opened for Muse in 2010. Fast forward to 2012 and their long-awaited return is on the cards. Life’s pretty sweet for Metric.

8. Queens of the Stone Age – TBC

Hints of a possible LP release in 2012 first surfaced in November 2011 when an interview with contributing guitarist Alain Johannes suggested that the processing stage was on the horizon, after admitting that he was spending a lot of time with the group.

9. The Shins – Port Of Morrow

After a five-year hiatus, the wait is finally over. The Portland outfit left us stunned after the release of Wincing The Night Away and with news that Port Of Morrow is scheduled to be out on March 20th, we can’t contain our excitement! Bring on the countdown…

10. Tool – TBC

A band that is notorious for releasing an album every five years since Aenima (1996), Lateralus (2001) and 10,000 Days (2006) is American rock band, Tool. With the now-delayed pattern throwing everyone off, the group made waves when they posted a cryptic message on their official site, hinting at a May 2012 date for their new record.
