New Music Discoveries 18th November: Nomes, Kira Puru, Anna Weatherup and more

We have added ten more tracks to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music. This week, our Track of the Week is “Stone’s Throw” — the debut single from South West WA singer-songwriter Nomes.

“Stone’s Throw” comes from Nomes forthcoming debut EP, which is due next year. As debuts go, it’s a striking one, with the South West artist turning in a beautiful vocal performance that’s full of warmth and emotion. There’s a wonderful richness to the track – both musically and lyrically. It’s clear Nomes will be one to watch in the future.

Kira Piru is back with “Talk With Me”, her first single in two and a half years. This is a steamy and sultry odyssey. It’s about being totally smitten, being captivated and totally crushing on someone. If you are in Sydney, you can catch Kira at the opening of TIVA Lounge tomorrow night (19th Nov).

“The River” is the new track from singer-songwriter and The Voice AU alumni Anna Weatherup. The track, which is from her upcoming album Crossing The Sea, was inspired by watching O Brother, Where Art Thou. It’s a powerful release, with Weatherup’s vocal drawing the listener in early. Add to that a blend of folk, alt country and blues and you’re onto a winner. The original O Brother siren trio would approve we’re sure.

Danish quintet Lowly have dropped “You Are Good And I Love You”. The blended vocals are a highlight, and the track is from their upcoming album, Keep Up The Good Work due out on the 17th of February 2023.

“Control” is from Bristol 4-piece alt-indie Adult Leisure. With a killer melody, infectious chorus and ripping guitars, we can’t wait to hear more from the band. The good news is that their debut  EP The Weekend Ritual is due to be released December 2nd 2022.,

“We’re Going Away” is the title track from Canadian multi-instrumentalist Zachari Smith’s third album. It’s an enjoyable and captivating slice of indie folk, full of vibrant instrumentation, heartfelt lyricism and some lush production. A modern take on that classic folk/americana sound.

New York’s Emmrose gives us the indie-pop “Coffee and Commitment”, and finally, we have premieres from Willie J and the Bad Books and This Space Is Ours.
