New Music Discoveries 13th February: Teenage Joans, Anna Calvi, Chet Sounds, and more

Another week, another nine tracks added to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music, including two singles we premiered earlier in the week. Adelaide punk power duo Teenage Joans take home our Track of the Week with their new single “Bandits” – their first release of 2026.

“Bandits” sees the duo embrace their inner country star, supplementing their trademark hard-hitting drums and pop-punk vocals with country-esque guitar riffs. And, given it’s Valentines this weekend, there’s a timely modern Bonnie and Clyde-style romance subplot going on too. It’s a  lot of fun, high energy,  and apparently also a taste of things to come, with “Bandits” kicking off a new era for the band. With a couple of local shows across the next couple of months, the duo will be heading across to the UK in May for a headline tour and festival appearances at Liverpool’s Sound City and Great Escape in Brighton. More information and tickets can be found HERE.

Anna Calvi has announced her new EP Is This All There Is?, arriving March 20, and shared its electrifying opener “God’s Lonely Man”, a collaboration with Iggy Pop. The four-track release also features Laurie Anderson, Matt Berninger and Perfume Genius, underscoring the ambitious scope of the project. On “God’s Lonely Man”, Calvi channels inner conflict into something combustible, with furious guitars and galvanising drums framing Iggy as the voice of her destructive internal monologue — raw, disruptive and utterly compelling.

The accompanying video captures an intimate communion between the pair, balancing stillness and wild energy as they declare, “I wanna be somebody tonight”. Iggy has, of course, had some incredible collaborations in the past, including with David Bowie. This is up there with the best. It’s set the bar very high for the rest of the EP.

“Cut from a Different Cloth” is the latest single from Australian DIY artist Chet Sounds and the first taste of his forthcoming third album Tying Up Loose Ends (Out March 6th). “Cut from a Different Cloth” is just a delight; a compelling and beguiling mix of classic soft rock, smooth soul and psychedelia – all delivered in a style that is distinctively Australian and distinctively Chet Sounds. Laidback, heartfelt and full of warmth and charm – the vibes, frankly, are immaculate!

This week sees Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Adam Newling release his new single “Foxtrap”. Described by Mewling as based on a true story, “Foxtrap” is all about falling in love and all the disorienting intensity that comes with those early heated moments of a relationship. It’s raw, intimate, but also full of warmth and energy, with this great, almost, alt-folk rock/country vibe that just pulls you in and along – it’s just so compelling and a bit of an ear worm. If you’re reading this from Newcastle, you can catch Mewling at the Howlin’ Country Festival on Saturday.

Sydney’s Mega Fäuna stride into 2026 with the announcement of their new album softmore, following 2023’s Fibonacci Sequins EP. Featuring members from The Buoys, Sweetie, Wiles and Skeleten, the five-piece is a well-credentialed outfit, and brings a range of influences to their intoxicating sound.  New single “Heartbeat” leads the charge, blending engaging indie hooks with driving momentum. The track is awash with energy and a welcome return to our airwaves.

Sydney garage-punk stalwarts Straight Arrows return with a razor-sharp new 7″ single, ” Middleman” / “Do The Sloth”, out now via legendary Italian label Goodbye Boozy Records. This one will give you major ‘60s feels; it’s packed with all the hip-shaking primal spirit you could hope for. It’s built for sweaty dancefloors and maximum release. It’s just a little bit rough around the edges, and all the better for it.

We’ve also added two premieres from earlier in the week – “You from Navisha, and “Bad At This” from Katy Denney.
