Music Video of the Day: RY X “Howling” (2016)

RY X is soon to be back on Australian soil, hitting the Falls Music and Arts Festival at the end of the year as well as taking in some hotly anticipated sideshows on the East Coast. His music has been drawing in many around the world as he’s been travelling with Dawn and captivating venues with his spacious, yet intimately enveloping soundscapes. Think about that vibe Active Child, James Blake or Fleet Foxes have been so good at doing in the past and that’s the kind of wave Ry is on with his material at the moment.

In his single “Howling”, we can hear Ry at some of his hypnotic, brooding best. The music video dropped recently and it’s an intense 5:19 minute cut of visuals that exude sensuality, a lingering desire and again, this intimacy that comes through strongly throughout the rest of the music on Dawn.

“”Howling” is based around the emotional connection and impact of past lovers into the present space.” Ry has explained. “About the way we hold onto their energy and carry it, and them, with us, into new relationships, and into our lives even as we grow. I collaborated with dear friends on this piece with artist Elena Stonaker creating visual worlds, choreographer Nina McNeely for dance, and the three lead women in this are dear friends of mine. That way the intimacy and connection was real. Ever present.”
