Music Video of the Day: Kim Churchill “Second Hand Car” (2017)

Kim Churchill‘s national tour is edging closer and today, he slayed his Like a Version performance, tackling Queens of the Stone Age for triple j. Ahead of the weekend, we’re sharing the songwriter’s new music video for the catchy single, “Second Hand Car”, taking from his new album Weight_Falls.

Shot out in St. Kilda, “Second Hand Car” sees Churchill manoeuvre and find his way out of a house with multiple characters, almost suspended in time. As he explains, the shoot was quite unique.

“It’s easily the most fun that I have ever had on a shoot and I was absorbed in this odd, surreal house and my role [was] to find a way out of it. …It was quite moving to be performing in the middle of these scenes, it was a brilliant visual experience for the song and the lightning design was unique and inspirational.”

Directed by Jeff Johnston, “Second Hand Car” is a striking clip, matching up with the single perfectly.

“Everyone has experienced the limbo of breaking up with someone,” Johnston explains. “Your thoughts push and pull between wanting to stay with them and knowing that it’s best if it ends; almost like a mental tug of war. That sense of limbo was the jumping off point for “Second Hand Car” and that I wanted to create a surreal representation of what feels like with all of the frozen individuals throughout this house, stuck in a mindset they can’t get out of.”
