Music Video of the Day: Kelela “LMK” (2017)

First, there was Syd‘s Fin. Then came SZA‘s Ctrl. Most recently, we’ve heard from Kelela and her new tune, “LMK”, a sexy call out for those nights in the club where hook ups are frequent and caution is definitely thrown to the wind.

This wave of enrapturing R&B is one we are so happy to be riding out at the moment and with Kelela’s long-awaited debut album, Take Me Apart, due out October 6th, we’re expecting another solid release from one of our favourite artists.

The music video oozes that retro throwback vibe of clips from the early 2000’s, focusing on Kelela making her way through the hazy club, walking with confidence and eyeballing the camera as she sings to the song’s subject to simply let her know if he is interested. She isn’t stressed either way, she’s out doing her own thing.

Directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, the clip is gorgeous, particularly when we get to the ‘unveiling’ of Kelela at the end; gone are the wigs and guises. She’s celebrating herself and rightly so.

Check it out below – all I need is FKA twigs to release new music and the picture will be complete for 2017.
