Music Video of the Day: Jen Cloher “Regional Echo” (2017)

Jen Cloher‘s new self-titled album is one we’re very much looking forward to; as one of the country’s underrated songwriters, Cloher’s new material we’ve been hearing has definitely gotten us excited for what’s featured in the next chapter of the Melbourne musician’s book of music.

In new single “Regional Echo”, Jen continues to bring open and raw songwriting to the fore as she unpacks love and life in general. Where the enticing “Forgot Myself” gave listeners and insight into the struggles of being in a long distance relationship, “Regional Echo” turns the focus on her relationship with Australia itself. The official music video takes the viewer to Goulburn, the hometown of her bassist Bones Sloane, for a look at smaller town life.

“Famous for its pastoral industry, most people will know it for the Big Merino, the world’s largest concrete sheep. I asked Bones if we could go home to visit his family and film him. I’ve used small town life as a larger metaphor for small time thinking – there’s something in our national psyche that keeps us small.” – Jen Cloher.
