Music Video of the Day: BUGS “Neighbourhood” (2017)

Brisbane has proven itself to be a bubbling melting pot of guitar music, singer songwriters and indie giants over the past few years and with a new year edging closer and closer, the Sunshine State isn’t stopping. Which brings us to Brissy trio BUGS.

From the coast to the suburbs of Brisbane itself, the group has expanded from being the project of musician Connor Brooker, to including Brock Weston and Jordan Brunoli. You may have caught BUGS supporting the likes of Modern Baseball, Hockey Dad and PUP since breaking through in 2014 – all about the good times and not resting on laurels at all.

Their new single, “Neighbourhood”, reflects this approach. As Brooker explains of the song, times have definitely changed for those growing up in the ‘burbs.

“This song is about feeling trapped by strangers and the unknown of what lurks across the fence; as a kid I grew up in a regional surf town where we didn’t lock the doors, a man walking down the street alone wasn’t a predator to fear for children, you didn’t wear a bike helmet. I’m not necessarily sure if my attitude has changed with maturity or if the world is a bit more twisted now – people don’t seem as open as they were, our society is afraid of sharing. Giving something up voluntarily is seen as vulnerability so people don’t take the chance.”

The music video was shot in their backyard, features a gorgeous pug and sees antics going down without a care at all. Check it out below!
