Murph chats about 2015 for The Wombats, moving to LA & hitting festivals in Australia!

The Wombats have been solid favourites in the eyes of Australian fans for years now and when they were announced to be ringing in the New Year with us at the Falls Festival, we were glad to have them back for another spell. Murph took some time out before they played Mt. Duneed to have a chat about this bond they’ve cultivated with Australian crowds, particularly at festivals, and what’s coming up next for him and the boys.

“Festivals can be a bit more freeing and enjoyable,” he says of the festival vibe. “Whereas with your own headline shows, people have paid specifically to see you play, so there’s a bit of pressure on that. I’ve done enough gigs this year to not have that pressure, so it’s nice to just be here, turning up and playing for a load of potentially shitfaced legends!”

“Splendour in the Grass this year was one of our top five, top three possibly best ever shows,” he furthers. “That was one of my favourite highlights. We also played a really bizarre festival in the countryside with Ian Brown and that was like our first ever Aussie gig, that was a strange one.”

On what’s coming up next, it would seem that after another few dates, Murph’s going to be refocusing on some things in the States after what’s understandably been a hectic year for the band with the release of their latest album, Glitterbug.

“I’m moving to LA,” he reveals. “I’m just going to take a few months off and then when it feels like it’s time to do something else, then that’ll happen. I’m definitely not going to force anything. I love London, but I just need some sunshine! It definitely makes me happier! I like to play golf and it’s not enjoyable to play golf in the rain. I’m not too worried about the whole LA thing because I’m not going over to make it or break into anything, I’m comfortable with where I’m at in the music world so I’m not that scared about it. Although, I am going with a vision to take things a lot harder.”
