MONA FOMA announces hilarious money-back guarantee for Launceston debut as 2019 dates are confirmed

The Tasmanian music and art festival MONA FOMA (Museum of Old and New Arts: Festival of Music and Arts) has announced the new location for its annual run in 2019. From next January on the MOFO will take place in the northern Tasmanian city of Launceston instead of being held at its usual Hobart location. The main event will be running from 18-20th of January and pop up events can be seen throughout the city from 13-20th of the month.

Brian Ritchie, the Curator of MONA FOMA, commented on the shift of location:

“We have been enthralled with the hospitality, infrastructure, natural beauty and general quirkiness of Launceston. We’re working with new venues and artists; and we’re really looking forward to sharing this Mona Foma with our festival-goers. We’re excited to say we’ve landed on a festival that will be identifiably MOFO—with a Launceston bent.”

Ahead of the MONA FOMA’s program announcement on the 12th of October, the festival crew is daring Tasmanians living south of Campbell Town, who are existing subscribers of the MOFO newsletter to buy discounted early-bird tickets, despite not knowing who is playing. For only $79 they receive a three-day pass, In God We Trust, which are on sale until midnight 23rd of September or until sold out.

The hook? If the Hobartians do not enjoy the show, refunds can be claimed after the festival and David Walsh (God), will refund them under certain conditions as outlined in the Redemption Clause, which requires that any dissatisfied festival-goer must:

  • Wait 40 days and 40 nights after Mona Foma 2019 to consider their decision
  • Hand write a letter expressing why they hated the festival
  • Personally deliver their letter to a complaints box located 150m offshore from MONA on a floating pontoon

MONA FOMA remains committed to inviting not only local artists but also international talents. The festival is well known, even across the continents borders, for its boundary-pushing line up. After previously having headlined namely artists like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Gotye, The Violent Femmes and many more the 2019 lineup is unlikely to disappoint.
