There’s something about the way Ronny Chieng yells at you that’s so endearing. The multi-award winning comedian has a knack for picking on the flaws of a generation who don’t know what they’re talking about, in a way that makes you feel both guilty and amused.
His stage persona of a faux egotistical comic is backed up with “RONNY” written in huge neon letters, as he walks on stage to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘i’. From the start his bursts of aggression are delivered with devastating comical effect knit picking his way through our law-hating, brand-loyal shells.
‘You Don’t Know What You’re Talking About” is both an insight to Chieng’s views on the tiny faults in society mixed with introspective glances, equally attacking himself and the world around him. This was the show of a man who is head and shoulders above most in Australian comedy game right now, with maybe only the obvious names keeping him from the summit. Supporting spots for the tours of comedy legends Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr have seen his already plentiful stock rise, and it’s well deserved.
