After more than a decade of shaping Australia’s indie music scene, Holy Holy have announced that they will be stepping away from the project indefinitely. Sharing the news on Instagram, the duo- comprising of composer Oscar Dawson and lyricist Timothy Carroll, explained that major life changes have led them to this decision. With Carroll relocation to Sweden and Dawson already focusing on production work in London, the time felt right to put Holy Holy on pause.
While the news comes as a blow to fans, Holy Holy won’t be bowing out quietly. Instead, they’re giving audiences a proper send-off with their aptly named “The Grand Hiatus” tour, which will take them to some of Australia’s best-loved venues for one last run of shows.
Holy Holy have left an undeniable mark on Aussie music, delivering a catalogue of hits like “True Lovers”, “Maybe You Know” and “Teach Me About Dying”. They have truly cemented themselves as giants within the Australian indie music scene and have a reputation for crafting emotive, anthemic music. Their influence stretches well beyond their own releases, with Dawson’s production work and Carroll’s songwriting making an impact across the industry.
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of love and support from fans and fellow musicians, all acknowledging the duo’s contribution to the scene and supporting their decision to take a break. In their statement, Holy Holy expressed their gratitude, saying, “To everyone who ever came to a show, bought a record, streamed a song or saw us at a festival- we are forever grateful. It means the world to us- that our songs mean something to you.”
“The Grand Hiatus” tour will begin in on May 9th in Adelaide and consists of fourteen shows across Queensland, Perth, Adelaide, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, hitting up both regional venues and capital cities, before drawing to a close in Brisbane on June 7th. This tour is shaping up to be a memorable one, with multiple outlets dropping hints at special guest appearances.
While this makes the end of a significant chapter, it may not be the last we hear from Holy Holy. Whether or not the duo reunite down the track, there’s no doubt that their music and the legacy they have built will continue to resonate with listeners for years to come. Given their history of selling out venues, we don’t expect tickets to be available for too long, so be sure to snatch yours up HERE
