Synth-pop solo artist BP Valenzuela, had a chat with Hello Asia editor Johnny Au during her time at Music Matters in Singapore to discuss her new album The Neon Hour. This is the first time the nineteen-year old has performed outside of her home in the Philippines.
2015 has been a huge year for the young artist, having the chance to distribute her unique sound to an international audience and acts;”It was eye opening I guess,I’ve played a bunch of festivals back home, one being Wonderland, it was a way to connect with other foreign artists”.
Valenzuela released her self produced album last March, The Neon Hour. The album still encompasses her blend of musical styles, she describes as; “electronic pop, synth-pop, a mix of different styles, ambient post-rock pop all into one”. After the success of an EP last year, Valenzuela was inspired to make the album consisting of 10 electric-pop tracks chronicling her personal coming of age experience.
Having just been signed by independent label Party Bear Records and developing a music video, she states that her career so far has been “pretty surreal.Last year I was making music in my room back home now I’m in Singapore”. Next year sees the artist writing more songs but for now the teen is taking it by ear saying; ” lately I’ve been riding a wave so I’m just going to see where that wave takes me”.
