Perth’s favourite larrikins The Southern River Band bring 80s hair metal and pub rock to the 21st century with their latest single “The Streets Don’t Lie”, released 13 April. With an electrifying live show and a 2022 W.A.M. Rock Band of the Year award, the band is what you get if Motley Crüe and The Chats hung out at a dive bar in Kings Cross.

Mixed by Dan Carroll (Spacey Jane, Grievous Bodily Calm) and mastered by William Bowden (Gotye, Kylie Minogue), “The Streets Don’t Lie” tells a story of unravelling futures through the eyes of old schoolmates. Strutting riffs and head-nodding drums bring a swagger to the song that compliments the catchy vocals and unabashed lyrics.

Frontman Cal Kramer put together a playlist of the songs that inspired the single for us.

Cold Chisel – “Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye)”

If you were to look up the word intensity in the dictionary, you’d see a picture of Cold Chisel live at The Manly Vale Hotel in 1980.

Rose Tattoo – “Bad Boy for Love”

Pure boogie by one of Australia’s greatest ever Rock n Roll bands, try and not nod your head. You can’t. You have to nod your head.

The Angels – “I Ain’t the One”

Face to Face is one hell of an album, and this song is absolutely relentless!

Status Quo – “Paper Plane”

I used to listen to this in my Opa’s old Fairlane near on every Saturday morning going to watch Inglewood United play. I still do too, just in a different car.

AC/DC – “Shoot to Thrill”

As of right now, this is my favourite AC/DC song and if ya give it a burl you’ll see why.

The Babys – “Midnight Rendezvous”

Kicks arse and the chorus gets ya well and truly in the mood!

Little Richard – “Long Tall Sally”

One of the best 12 bar boogies ever, and one of the best voices ever.

Elvis Presley – “Lawdy, Miss Clawdy”

‘68 Comeback Special in the leather suit, absolutely spellbinding.

Van Halen – “Dirty Movies”

It’s like disco meets hard rock, and they get on like a house on fire!
