Guest Playlist: Melbourne’s MOBS unveil their top ten favourite remixes

MOBS

This week sees rising Australian quartet MOBS release a reworking of their single “Big World” with DJ, producer and singer-songwriter Goldhouse.

The quartet enlisted the expertise of the esteemed producer during COVID lockdown earlier in the year. “We were in lockdown with COVID and decided to bring a different energy to a collective favourite song off the album, which is when Goldhouse entered the picture”, explains bassist Scott MacDougall. “We loved the work he did for Billie Eilish’s ‘Ocean Eyes’ and thought that Goldhouse’s producing talent could bring a different groove to the work we did on that song.”

The Chicago-based Goldhouse has made the most of the original’s retro-tinged sonic palette, expanding it further into euphoric disco territory. It’s upbeat, atmospheric and will surely get you on your feet once the clubs start opening up again. Until then we recommend donning the fluros and dancing like no-one’s watching in your kitchen or living rooms.

To celebrate the release of the Goldhouse remix of their single “Big World” the band have compiled a guest playlist for the AU, full of their favourite remixes. Press play and read on to hear their thoughts on the selected tracks.

“Still Not Over You (Mall Grab Remix)” – Klyne

A strong favourite and something to shed a tear to here and there.

“Gimme Love (Channel Tres Remix)” – Joji

High energy pop song wound down to a relaxing listen.

“Don’t Start Now (LA Remix)” – Dua Lipa

One of the best pop songs to come out of 2020. The instrumental that takes the first half of the song is put together really well.

“Heat Waves (Shakur Ahmad Remix)” – Glass Animals

That extra bass in the Chorus? Say no more!

“Embracing Me (Hayden James Remix)” – SAFIA

These two artists cannot release a bad song and when they work together its even better

“Always (Classixx Remix)” – Panama

Summer’s day, windows down!

“On Hold (Jamie XX Remix)” – The XX

The sample of Hall and Oates, “I Can’t Go For That” is emphasised even more in this rework. The production from Jamie is incredible – one of a kind.

“Ocean Eyes (GOLDHOUSE)” – Billie Eilish

One of the songs that made us want to go with GOLDHOUSE with our song, “Big World”. The plucky guitars and hi tag synths were a match made in heaven. It drives the song completely differently to the original, in a great way.

“Feel The Way I Do (Northeast Party House Remix)” – The Jungle Giants

Funky Bass did it for us. Reworked to perfection.

“Opal (Four Tet Remix)” – Bicep

The only pure instrumental pick and it is so damn beautiful.

“Big World (Goldhouse Remix) is out today. MOBS’ debut album Cinema Paradiso is available now.
