Guest Playlist: Melbourne trio Vinny bring you the essential 80’s beats you need in your life

Vinny Fire

Melbourne trio Vinny capped off November with the release of “Fire”, their second release of the year.

Armed with infectious base lines and oozing swagger, “Fire” is as good an introduction as any to the Melbourne band. Think neon lit dance floors, a touch of hedonism and a smidge of seedy dance floor vibes and you get the idea. It’s got those rock vibes, it’s got those disco and funk vibes, and most importantly of all it’s got groove to spare. Confident, assured and tight in its delivery “Fire” is Vinny announcing themselves to the world in the best way.

“We had this groove and feeling in our bones. We were lying poolside sipping pina coladas, watching the sun go down when out of nowhere, a topless, coconut-oiled man walked past us down to the beach playing his saxophone, shooting fire out of the bell (thus the name, ‘Fire’). We befriended him and asked if he would come into the studio that night to help us finish off the track. We worked throughout the night and finished the song by sunrise.” – Vinny

To celebrate the release of “Fire”, the band have put together a playlist for us with their essential 80’s beats. Listening to “Fire”, we’re confident they know their stuff. So hit play on the playlist and read on through to find out more about their song choices.

Janis Ian “Fly too High (79’)”

This is our anthem. The groove, the attitude, what a woman! Trumpet is just the icing on top. (might be a sneaky cover in the works).

Martha and the Muffins “Echo Beach”

It’s all about the beat and synths in this one. Take us to Echo Beach!

New Order “Blue Monday”

What a hit! When in doubt crank “Blue Monday” out! Dancefloor saviour.

Daryl Hall & John Oates “Private Eyes”

Over laying guitar riffs with strong powerful piano chords. You had me at, I see you.

Laura Branigan “Gloria”

THE most prominent synth riff of all time! Not to mention Laura’s pipes are out of this world. Home Run!

Barry White “Let The Music Play”

Barry White Always! The Man, the Myth, the Legend! Make sure to watch Barry Live at Frankfurt.

Prince “Raspberry Beret”

One of the best film clips of all time. What an outfit!

Rick James “Give It To Me Baby”

Rick James. Mother fuckin Rick James baby! Whoooooshaaa!

Talking Heads “This Must Be The Place”

Talking Heads are always on high rotation at VINNY HQ. How did I get here?

Rod Stewart “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy (78’)”

We couldn’t name some bangers without the banger of all bangers! Yes, Rod, we all think you are sexy!
