Grouplove chat Big Mess and the making of a new album with a baby on the way!

While in Sydney recently for their wildly popular shows at the Oxford Art Factory, Grouplove spent some time hanging out with Larry to chat about all the changes that have happened to the band since we last caught up. Of course, with the arrival of baby Willa and the impending release of their new album Big Mess, Grouplove have definitely entered a new phase.

As Christian Zucconi mentions, writing with a baby in mind changed things up, but in a good way.

“Most of it was written while Hannah was pregnant,” he says of Big Mess. “It was a whole new mind space to be in. It was also a whole new mind space to be off for the first time in five years, we had nothing to do. There’s no expectations, there’s no deadlines, so we got to totally be free and be artists; do what we want and write for whatever reasons and eventually, go down the line and pick what could make the album later. It was very liberating.”

“Before Never Trust A Happy Song, we had our whole life writing these kind of songs and for the first time we had that again, with this album. We’re really proud of it, it’s really honest and I definitely think it’s the best one we’ve ever done.”

Check out the first part of our interview below!

Big Mess is out September 9th through Warner Australia.
