Gotye and Adele continue their reign of the ARIA Charts

The incredible Gotye continues to dominate the ARIA Singles Chart, chalking up a second consecutive week at the top with his smash hit “Somebody That I Used To Know” featuring Kimbra, as the track continues to build sales week on week. Accruing an eleventh straight week at the peak of the ARIA Album Chart is Adele, whose powerful album “21” achieves a total of fifteen non-consecutive weeks at No.1. “21” this week claims the mantle as the second-longest running No.1 album of the century, following Delta Goodrem’s 2003 release “Innocent Eyes”, which enjoyed an epic twenty-nine weeks at the top of the chart. Adele’s debut album “19” rounds out the top 5, dropping only one spot from No.4 last week.

Eskimo Joe adds a local dimension to the upper echelons of the ARIA Album Chart, as their fifth studio album “Ghosts Of The Past” claims a No.3 debut, providing the foursome with their fourth top 10 album. The band’s 2004 release “A Song Is A City” peaked at No.2, followed by “Black Fingernails Red Wine” and “Inshalla”, which topped the ARIA Chart in 2006 and 2009 respectively. “Moonfire” from homegrown folk outfit Boy & Bear remains in the top 5 after its strong No.2 debut last week, falling a mere two spots to No.4. Propelled by her ARIA Singles Chart hit “Inescapable” this week, Jessica Mauboy’s “Get ‘Em Girls” swoops back into the ARIA Album Chart top 10 for the first time since it’s No.6 debut last November, blasting from No.92 to 9! Racing up nine spots to 13 is Gotye’s “Like Drawing Blood”, followed by acclaimed Indigenous artist Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, whose former number three album “Rrakala” returns to the top 40, sitting in 28th position. Debuting just behind at No.29 is homegrown hip-hop artist Phrase with his third album “Babylon”. The soundtrack to US feature film Sucker Punch features tracks from Alison Mosshart, Bjork, Emiliana Torrini and others, and re-enters the top 40 chart at No.35, three weeks after release.

Maroon 5 continues to hold strong in second position on the ARIA Singles Chart, as “Moves Like Jagger” featuring Christina Aguilera enjoys a fourth consecutive week at No.2. Achieving his seventh Australian top 10 single overall, and third this year, is David Guetta, whose cracking track “Titanium” featuring Adelaide artist Sia races a huge twenty-one spots up the chart toNo.10. Jason Derulo’s “It Girl” enters at No.16 this week, “Jumpstart” from These Kids Wear Crowns climbs six spots to No.17, and “I Need A Dollar” from Aloe Blacc blasts up eight spots into 19th position. Hot Chelle Rae claims a No.29 debut with “Tonight Tonight”, with further chart entries coming from Cobra Starship featuring Sabi with “You Make Me Feel” at No.31, “You And I” from Lady Gaga at No.34, along with Eskimo Joe’s “Love Is A Drug” and The Jezabels’ “Endless Summer” at No.38 and 39 respectively.
