Exclusive Single Premiere: Horace Bones “The Rats” (2017)

Horace Bones are fast gaining a reputation for their live shows; vocalist Oisin Kelly emanates a kind of fascinating instability, the band at once formidable and so, so enjoyable. Today, we bring you Horace Bones contained in a recording, an exclusive premiere of their third single for 2017, “The Rats”.

Danny Cockburn‘s grinding and gritty bass riffs underlie the mania-riddled track, a confident exploration of the group’s musical dynamic. “The Rats” is a foray into “the consequences of conspiring with the voices in your head, rather than against them”. If you’ve seen this track live, that feeling of conspiracy is definitely there between band members.

Recorded and produced at The Alamo studios by Daniel Caswell (Dune RatsThe Living End), the track is all conviction; a self-assured sound that’s hinting at some fantastic things to come for the group.

“The pulsating verses pierced with moments of frantic shouting brought me back to about a year ago when I was experiencing some metal health issues in the form of psychosis.” Kelly remembers. “During that time I felt a strong presence drawing me into insanity that I fought back regularly. The “rats” represent that force and in the song, I succumb to their luring.”

Horace Bones are piling into their trusty tour van “Jolene” and attacking the East Coast to support this single, including showcases at BIGSOUND. If they don’t bring the venues down around them, these boys are going to be making some serious impact.
