Exclusive Music Video Premiere: Gumboot “Holiday” (2017)

Not-quite from Melbourne band Gumboot are self described as “post surf idiosyncratic goth rock”. I don’t know if I entirely agree with this sentiment, but they are indeed something unique. It’s not often you see lead riffs being hammered out, rag-style, on keys, while the rest of the group explores slacker-punk territory.

Gumboot’s second EP, Holiday, dropped on June 15th, and today we’re bringing you the music video to accompany lead single, “Holiday”. Yes, the entire clip is inverted colours. Yes, it’s reminiscent of nightmarish family holidays. Yes, it’s charmingly Australian (down to the boogie board in the tree).

The whole EP is written from ‘real world’, relatable experiences; being stuck on holiday with your estranged family, waking up a zombie, and rollerblading until you die. There’s something more to this group than their unique sound, 20-something slacker vibes and clever songwriting – whatever it is, it’s rapidly gaining this four-piece a cult following.

Have a listen, check out the video, enjoy Gumboot’s take on classic garage rock, maybe join the cult following. Or maybe just gain a deeper appreciation for the humble gumboot.

Catch Gumboot at their upcoming Melbourne shows:

Northcote Social Club | Monday 3rd July
The Tote | August 27th

Their second EP, Holiday, is available here.
