Exclusive Album Premiere: RAD ISLAND – Power Couple (2017 EP)

Normally obnoxious isn’t a compliment, but in the case of RAD ISLAND, it’s part of their charm. The Melbourne trio’s rollicking, in-your-face punk rock is fast and fun, receiving praise across triple j unearthed for being “something frantic that doesn’t stress [you] out”.

Power Couple is RAD ISLAND‘s latest EP, perfectly capturing their sound across five tracks of a punchy, punky frenzy – and we’re lucky enough to be giving you an exclusive premiere. From the chunky opener “We All Get High”, right to the anthemic “Rot At Home”, the trio deliver air tight and ambitious tracks, of a calibre far exceeding a second EP.

The incisive punk takes sharp turns through pop and rock themes, with lyrical themes that will resonate with millennials, ranging from heartbreak to ‘the everyday fight of the melancholic majority’. Luke Fraser (vox/guitar) describes the album as being ‘largely about breakups and dealing with loss/gain of a sense of belonging… Ultimately both people no longer exist in the same way that they did before and the emotional trauma that comes along with that shouldn’t be understated.’

Power Couple is an EP that’s better than pineapple on pizza – check it out below.

Even if you don’t like pineapple on pizza, you’ll love this EP (but your taste in pizza will remain terrible).

RAD ISLAND are launching Power Couple this Saturday night (April 8th) at The Reverence, with The Second SexShips Piano and Crusch. If you’re Melbourne based, don’t miss a chance to see this frenetic trio smash it.
