Recent news that Erykah Badu will be releasing a new mixtape, titled You Cain’t Use My Phone, sent her many fans around the world into frenzy. We don’t often get full projects from the Queen of Neo-Soul nowadays, so her being inspired enough to give us a bunch of new material is a big deal.
The unique, eccentric soulstress has shared the first single from that upcoming mixtape, again demonstrating some weird fixation with phones. Titled “Phone Down”, Erykah struts over a skittering production, confident that she can distract us from our smart phone obsession with her otherworldly brilliance.
Talking to The Fader, Erykah let us know that every song on the mixtape will be phone-related and has inspired her to write a brand new album. Listen to “Phone Down” below.
