Eliza Hull is launching the first single, Five, from her forthcoming debut album Hourglass (due out late 2011) at the Northcote Social Club, as part of Darebin Music Feast in September 2011.
Five is a debut single which reaches out with its focused, yet uninhibited, approach. From a soul well versed in life experience and ghostly love, emerges a dreamy lyricism, which is delivered by a voice described as ‘fragile, yet strong’, and like ‘her heart is breaking in one hand and mending in the other’ – Beat Magazine. Eliza Hull confesses she ‘drifts to another space’ whilst performing on stage and very often takes the audience right along with her, becoming instantly intimate.
Hourglass is the end result of a process of musical maturation and three years of crafting, with the single, Five, delivering the first taste of the poetic stream of distant and present memory which is to follow.
Through years of involvement in the Melbourne music scene with the band Describe Eliza, national touring, Triple J support, and nationwide television coverage, Eliza is now a valued and respected performer. Having drawn together her dream team of musicians and producers, Eliza has worked with this talent to capture the sounds and experiences of her mind and translate them to the audio sphere.
Harnessing inspiration as it emerges; home studios, garages, and churches have all been used to produce an eclectic sound, full of string and horn arrangements. Hourglass is born out of bona fide passion. Through the unique blend of electronica, inspired by the nineties, together with stunning organic arrangements, the sounds of Eliza Hull can be described as both modern and timeless.
Audiences can anticipate a show that captures and demonstrates the album’s full essence with a nine piece band seamlessly merging live instrumentation, electronics and strings. Be prepared to witness the threads of a heart be woven through a diverse, expressive, and textured soundscape, and spun in listener’s minds by a voice not soon forgotten.
