chloe: the brand shares five moments Co-Star came true

Melbourne electro-pop artist chloe: the brand is making moves and starting the year strong. Their latest single “Co-Star” – released 31 March – is a heartbreakingly hopeful track reminiscent of daine and Mallrat.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Samuel K Sproull (Eliza & The Delusionals, Japanese Wallpaper), “Co-Star” ebbs and flows with processed vocals over downtempo beats and pulsing pads. The title refers to the astrology app of the same name that personalises horoscopes, using confirmation bias in the lyrics to explain away doubts of a failing relationship.

“We collaborated so well together and Co-Star feels like a true representation of my sound and personality as an artist,” chloe says of the song. “I’m a big fan of hyperpop music and this definitely inspired me in the studio. I fell in love with the vocoder chorus as soon as I heard it. The glitchy-synth-sound feels so me.”

In alignment with the single, chloe has shared five moments when the Co-Star app predictions came true for them.

  1. “Red flags don’t go away if you ignore them”

I screenshotted this message just before I wrote Co-Star. The red flags I was seeing at the time never did turn to green.

  1. “Do: notes app poetry”

I love love love writing notes app poetry. It is truly a sacred art form.

  1. “You have zero self-control right now”

I got this notification while getting ready for an impromptu Tinder date…

  1. “If they want you, they’ll let you know”

The Co-Star app can always sense when you’re sitting by your phone, eagerly awaiting a message that will never come.

  1. “You weren’t meant for a normal life”

This one is more of a manifestation. I hope that one day my life is strange and bizarre and unusual.

“Co-Star” is a contemporary take on modern love gone wrong with an underlying message of our reliance on technology for personal connection. Previous single “Left of Centre” has seen support from community radio and TV such as SYN, 4ZZZ, MTV and more. chloe is set to perform their debut headline show at The Workers Club in Melbourne on Thursday 11 May. You can get your tickets HERE.

“I am so excited to play my first ever headline show in May. As a queer artist, I have always looked up to femme and gender-diverse musicians. I am in the process of curating a line-up which is diverse and femme-fronted. I cannot wait to share everything I’ve been working on.”
