Childish Gambino pulls out of Falls Downtown in Fremantle to attend Golden Globes

Sad news for Childish Gambino fans out on the West Coast, with the Atlanta superstar having to pull out of Falls Downtown in Fremantle next month. Unfortunately (but at the same time, excitingly) for Donald Glover, the 2017 Golden Globes have come a-calling and with his hit FX show Atlanta reaping in a couple of nominations, the show’s star, writer and show creator now has to return Stateside for the event.

Replacing Childish Gambino in WA will be Allday and King Gizzard and Lizard Wizard, though if you’re attending any of the other Falls Festivals on the east coast, your line up remains unaffected. Refunds are available for Saturday 1-day Falls Downtown tickets but for a limited time only. No refunds past 5pm ADST, December 31st will be processed – hit up [email protected] with your order number to ensure your refund is processed within 10 business days.

Full statement from the festival organisers below.

“We regret to inform our Fremantle patrons that Childish Gambino will no longer be able to perform at this year’s Falls Downtown in January. We have received word that he is in the running for a couple of nominations at the upcoming Golden Globes, and as a first time nominee and show creator he will be flying back to America prematurely. He looks forward to making this date up to you all in the near future. All other Childish Gambino performances will be continuing as originally scheduled in Lorne, Marion Bay and Byron Bay.

Due to the proximity to Christmas and the requirements for Visas, getting an international replacement just isn’t possible. We have instead found not one but two of Australia’s hottest acts to step in and save the day and make our Saturday in Freo a night to remember! Australian legends and prime time psych monarchs King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizardplus free-flow hip-hop king Allday are stepping up to the Saturday night party slots, ready to treat you right!”
