Ben Schneider of Lord Huron talks new material, advice for upcoming bands & more at Bluesfest!

Lord Huron have stuck out as one of the highlights of this year’s Bluesfest line up down in Byron Bay and it’s no wonder – a blistering live show littered with stage charm and an endearing presence that can only really be learned through years of honing their craft, the band won many new fans on this trip, that’s for sure.

Ben Schneider sat down with Larry over the weekend at Byron Bay to chat about this tour, the band’s first trip to Australia, and how new music is beginning to fit its way into the picture.

“You know, the shows have been really exciting.” he says. “It’s always interesting to go to a far-flung place and see that people actually know your music and sing along, and all that. It’s surreal.”

“It’s always interesting added a whole batch of new songs into a set,” Schneider continues. “Some of them we’ve been playing a little bit before, but most of them not. Our musical philosophy is always just to go with what we’re interested in; over the course of two EPs and two albums, it’s become this weird stew of stuff. It’s fun to stack on top of each other, switch it around and see what sounds good after what and what people respond to. After a long year of doing that, like you said, we’re ready to start integrating some new stuff too. I’ve been writing a new record and hopefully, when we get back to the States, we’ll start recording it.”
