At The Drive-In’s surprise performance proves the highlight of House of Vans at SXSW

For the past two days, the iconic Austin venue Mohawk played host to the annual House of Vans, featuring a mix of primarily rock and hip hop acts – some well established and plenty emerging. But it was the surprise addition of At The Drive-In during the event’s first night that proved to be the event’s biggest talking point.

With a limited capacity, the show proved as an intimate venue to see the much loved band ahead of the release of their first album in 17 years, in•ter a•li•a, due out on May 5th. They teased just one track off the album, “Governed By Contagions”, while the rest of their set lent on their last album, 2001’s Relationship of Command. “One Armed Scissor”, a favourite from the record, closed the set.

The full setlist is below:

Elsewhere in the evening, Temples and Le Butcherettes were highlights and POLIÇA and The Black Angels went on to close that night. Meanwhile, tonight’s headlining duties were bestowed upon French Montana and The Cool Kids, as the venue went decidedly hip-hop after a night of rock and roll. Joey Purp and buzz artist NONAME also performed, while The Drums and Australia’s own Betty Who hit the stage earlier in the day for the event’s day party.
