Artists at BIGSOUND: Ceres (Melbourne) on premiering new material for fans & chilli dogs in the Valley

Easily one of our most anticipated Australian album releases is Ceres‘ new record, Drag It Down On You. Set to drop this Friday, the album is going to be fleshed out on a tour post-BIGSOUND but in the meantime, the Melbourne band are looking to be bringing some sweet tastes of album number two to their official showcase at The Zoo next week.

As vocalist Tom Lanyon mentions, revitalising their set list for BIGSOUND is particularly exciting, perhaps even as exciting as the prospect of revisiting a favourite food spot…

How are you anticipating the event, if this going to be your first BIGSOUND?

It’s mine and our band’s first time, so not too sure what to expect. I’m assuming I’ll be seeing too many bands, drinking too many beers and eating too many chilli-dogs from that hot-dog place in the Valley.

There are going to be so many shows to be seeing; do you have any type of game plan going into BIGSOUND this year when it comes to dealing with the craziness?

No plan at all. I’ll just see how the mop flops, I guess. Probably should have a plan of attack; as long as there’s one or two chilli-dogs in there, I’ll be stoked.

Are there any particular artists you’re keen to see that you’d recommend someone else hitting BIGSOUND for the first time?

Japanese Wallpaper, Alex Lahey, Middle Kids, West Thebarton Brothel Party, Gordi, DZ Deathrays, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever…the list goes on.

For emerging Australian talent, what would you say is one of the biggest things you could hope to take away from an event like BIGSOUND?

Besides the chilli-dogs, probably just the experience of being a part of something like this; we are stoked to be involved and we are going to try to lap it all up.

In terms of new music, can you tell us a bit about what you’re working on at the moment and if you’re going to be looking to show off some fresh or new tunes for the BIGSOUND crowd?

Our second record Drag It Down On You is out Friday September 2nd, the Friday before BIGSOUND. We are so excited to play songs from that, for the first time. Feels so good to add some freshness to the ol’ well-worn set.

What music of yours should we be checking out ahead of BIGSOUND?

Our video for “Laundry Echo” turned out pretty cool, maybe that one?

Ceres perform at The Zoo as part of BIGSOUND on Thursday, September 8th from 8:50pm to 9:20pm. They’ll also be performing at Deathproof’s pre-BIGSOUND party at the Crowbar on Tuesday, September 6th!
