Artists at BIGSOUND 2016: Ecca Vandal (Melbourne) checks in ahead of her four-show run in Brisbane this week!

This is it, guys. BIGSOUND party fever is well and truly here but we’re ready for it. So too is Ecca Vandal, an artist we actually first met at BIGSOUND 2014. Since then, she’s gone on to become one of our favourite live performers, a sentiment felt by many around the country too. She returns with her band to Brisbane this week for four stomper gigs, fresh off the back of a trip to the US.

Ecca checks in with us ahead of the chaos…

If you’ve attended BIGSOUND before, how did that experience treat you?

I have attended BIGSOUND before just to hang out and head to the parties, ‘cos I heard they were really great! True story – I met some great people who I call friends now.

There are going to be so many shows to be seeing; do you have any type of game plan going into BIGSOUND this year when it comes to dealing with the craziness?

No game plan as such. I just love playing live and I’m going to approach it like any other show. Just have as much fun as possible. I totally get there’ll be mayhem, but my show is pretty wild too so I’m quite comfortable in the chaos!

Are there any particular artists you’re keen to see that you’d recommend someone else hitting BIGSOUND for the first time?

DZ Deathrays, Dorsal Fins, Sampa the Great, Kira Puru

For emerging Australian talent, what would you say is one of the biggest things you could hope to take away from an event like BIGSOUND?

Find the real great humans, ‘cos they’ll probably end up as friends! Have fun and support each other.

In terms of new music, can you tell us a bit about what you’re working on at the moment and if you’re going to be looking to show off some fresh or new tunes for the BIGSOUND crowd?

I’m working on loads of new material at the moment. There are a couple of new tracks in my set! Can’t wait to share the new tunes with you all.

What music of yours should we be checking out ahead of BIGSOUND?

“Battle Royal”, “Truth to Trade” and “End of Time”. Those three could give you an idea…

Ecca Vandal plays tonight at the both the Secret Sounds Opening Party at The Triffid (7:20pm) and at Pandora’s Charged Party at The Woolly Mammoth (10:10pm). Her official BIGSOUND showcase is lined up for The Brightside on Wednesday, September 7th (11:40pm), while her final date is at Ric’s Backyard for Pandora on Thursday, September 8th (3:55pm).
